Frequently Asked Questions
What sizes of pharmacies use your solution?
Our solution is designed for community pharmacies that prepare blister cards, whether they handle 200, 800, or more per week. The machine is suitable for both small and large volumes. We can configure multiple units in your facility to reduce operational risk. In case of maintenance, one of the two would remain available.
Can the machine handle all medications?
Chronopac supports the vast majority of tablets, capsules, and caplets used in community pharmacies. Certain drugs such as cytotoxics, allergens, or non-recommended aluminum packaging should be excluded, but most common medications can be dispensed using Chronopac canisters.
Can I continue to use my current blister cards?
Yes. The robot can be adapted to use all the blister cards on the market, including verification machine trays. So you can keep using your current formats without changing your habits or suppliers.
How to know if the investment is profitable for my pharmacy (ROI)?
Our ROI calculator, available at https://chronomed.ca/en/resource/, allows you to quickly estimate time and cost savings. Most pharmacies see a significant reduction in preparation time and errors, which accelerates the return on investment. The time freed up by technicians and pharmacists can then be allocated to cost-effective pharmaceutical care.
Are there any financing options available?
Chronomed does not offer direct financing, but we can refer you to relevant financial resources. We are always on the lookout for potential grants.
Do I have enough space to install the machine? Will the installation require renovations to my pharmacy?
The Chronopac is one of the only blister-cards-filling automation systems that can be installed directly on a countertop, without the need for renovations or specialized modifications. The machine measures approximately 1 meter wide, 58 cm deep, and 1.7 meters high, making it easy to integrate into a standard pharmacy workstation. Additionally, depending on your production volume, an additional meter of counter is needed for the manual adds but can be used for other tasks when no production is scheduled.
How long does it take before installation?
The average lead time is about three months. This period allows us to analyze your top-selling products, customize the canisters, and perform the necessary compatibility tests to ensure a quick and well-planned installation that minimizes the impact on your operations. An expedited delivery can be discussed with the Chronomed team.
Is the training complicated for my team?
No. Approximately 3 hours of training is sufficient to use the machine, and we offer subsequent refreshers. Our team will make sure everyone feels completely comfortable before letting you continue operations on your own. Learning our app is quick and easy, as the interface is intuitive, visual, and designed for users of all skill levels.
What production speed can I actually achieve?
The Chronopac can prepare up to 35 pillboxes per hour under optimal conditions. In real conditions, about 30 pillboxes per hour can be assembled, including cassette fillings and manipulations. This significantly reduces manual labor and stabilizes your production, even during periods of staff shortages.
Can I count on a reliable and safe preparation process?
The machine uses a conventional system for scanning medication bottles, a computerized verification process linked to Health Canada’s database, and full traceability of lots and expiration dates. Technically, the targeted reliability is 99.9%, so less than 1 error per 1000 drug ads, or approximately less than 1 error per 15 pillboxes, which secures your preparation process. Practically, Chronomed always aims for the best performance, and your pharmacy may reach better results.
What happens if the machine malfunctions? Is technical support included?
Our team offers chat and phone support, preventive maintenance tailored to your volume, and pharmacy troubleshooting within 24 to 36 business hours.
Can I see the machine in action before making a decision?
Yes. We offer demonstrations at pharmacies that already have a Chronopac. This allows you to see firsthand how the machine fits into a real-world work environment and assess its impact on your workflow while asking questions directly to our team and actual users.
Should I invest in automated verification (Vision) or in automated pill dispensing?
It depends entirely on your pharmacy’s needs. Pharmacies facing a shortage of technical staff generally prioritize automated dispensing, as it immediately reduces workload and errors. By automating dispensing, you gain a twofold advantage: fewer errors at the source and, consequently, less time spent on verification. Chronomed is currently developing an automated verification solution, but automated dispensing already offers tangible, measurable, and immediate benefits.
The system also incorporates a technology for scanning medicine jars to further secure the assembly process, in a manner comparable to systems already used in pharmacies.
